Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween from the South Central Regional Library Staff!

Did you know that Halloween traces its roots back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in). The Celts, who inhabited regions that are now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and northern France around 2,000 years ago, marked their new year on November 1.

This day signified the conclusion of summer and the harvest, ushering in the dark and chilly winter—a season often linked to human mortality. The Celts believed that on the eve of the new year, the division between the living and the dead became indistinct. On the night of October 31, they celebrated Samhain, a time when it was thought that the spirits of the deceased returned to the earthly realm.

BUT, today it is commonly celebrated all day by trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive gatherings, and/or wearing costumes! Keep reading to find our newest Horror/Halloween novels separated by age!
