Would you recommend this book to someone, why or why not?
Yes I would because it has a lot of powerful meanings, and teaches how adversity can be faced.
How did the author keep you interested throughout the story?
The author made it an interesting read because of the perspective she told it through. With it being a memoir, she was speaking about her past experiences through a present tense. This mixture of past and present made it very engaging.
Did this book change or challenge any preconceived notions you had about the subject?
This book challenged me on how to perceive and face adversity or challenges. It went against the stereotype of being homeless and the "bad" decisions that people make to get to that point, which was very refreshing and new.
Have you read anything else on this subject by an author with a different viewpoint?
No, I have not.
Was there anyone in the story, or a statement made that you disagreed with while reading?
I disagreed with the main characters father, Rex Walls. I disagreed with his view of how to provide for his children and what he thought was a "stable" family which eventually pushed all his kids away.
What did you learn from this book? Did you find the subject interesting?
I learned that anything can be solved or worked through with sincerity, determination, and courage. I found this subject to be very interesting and learned a lot by reading about someone else's story.
Did you stop to Google anything while reading this book?
I googled a lot of the towns where Jeannette lived during her childhood, to see the conditions in which she was describing in the book.
Were you satisfied with the overall structure of the book, or could improvements be made?
I was satisfied with the structure, but one thing I would have loved to see was more of her present-day views of her childhood, not just her viewpoint from the past.
