Junior Fiction
This book series was suggested to our library by a local
school librarian. It has been as popular here as it has been there!
Mia Macarooney is a regular kid during the day but as soon
as the school bell rings for dismissal, she becomes Mia Mayhem! She can’t tell
anyone about being a superhero except her parents (also superheroes), her best
friend Eddie and Dr. Sue Perb.
In this book, Mia learns about a new power and how to use it
wisely.
I would recommend this series for both boys and girls who
are just starting out with chapter books. There is a nice ratio of printing to
pictures to help kids figure things out if they’re not sure of words, but the
language is also simple for lower grade readers. The author uses a fun idea
(kids with superpowers!) and combines that with friendship and working together
themes. The books have a good message about helping others and doing the right
thing.
