First published in 1943, Homer Price tells the story of a boy named Homer Price and his hometown, Centerburg.

Homer and the townspeople of Centerburg always seem to be inadvertently getting into troublesome adventures.  Follow along with Homer as his pet skunk helps him catch a gang of robbers; his Uncle Ulysses's doughnut making machine won't stop making doughnuts; there is a contest in town to see who has the biggest ball of yarn; an odd stranger shows up in town with a curious invention, and other comical antics.

Along with a loveable array of characters, the illustrations by Robert McCloskey are charming and the writing is engaging.  This is a thoroughly delightful book that will appeal to people age 7 and up.

If you enjoy Beverly Cleary's Henry Higgins and Ramona Quimby books, Homer Price may just be a book for you.  Make sure to read the follow-up book, Centerburg Tales, for more amusing stories.  Robert McCloskey also wrote and illustrated Make Way for Ducklings and Blueberries for Sal.
