The Woods Are Always Watching

 By Stephanie Perkins

Young Adult Fiction, Mystery/Thriller

Reviewed by Rachael, Altona Branch Administrator

Neena and Josie have been friends forever.  Not ones to join the crowd, they spent most of high school in their own comfortable bubble. However, now that school is done, things will be different.  Neena is leaving to attend school 2000 miles away and Josie is staying behind.  The girls decide to end the summer with a hiking and camping trip, something they felt they had missed out on during high school,  But things on their trip do not go as planned.  Will they, and their friendship, be able to survive this last disastrous trip?

I really enjoyed this quick read and felt that the author really made the characters come alive.  Even without the thriller aspect of this story, it would have been a great book about friendships and how they ebb and flow.  I was disappointed in the ending only because I wished the author would have given more details about how things played out after the conclusion.
