Going Postal
Going Postal by Terry Pratchett
a book review by Linda from the Winkler Branch
When you're down to your last chance, and that last chance means leaving your con-man past behind to become Postmaster General, what do you do? Well, Moist von Lipwig is a con-man through and through, and if there's a chance, he'll grab it - even if the postal service has been cobwebbed for more than fifty years - because maybe, just maybe, he can pull off one last con, make some coin, and escape from the all-seeing eye of Lord Vetinari, the all-seeing tyrant who runs the city, and who is responsible for making Moist choose between the post office or death.
If you pick up "Going Postal" looking for a comedy fantasy novel, you will not be disappointed. Golems, werewolves, wizards, magic, and dark tyrants are just part of life in the city of Anhk-Morpork and the world of Discworld. If you're looking for a fast-paced plot, you will not be disappointed either. And if you want a sly bit of satire and a sharp look at human psychology well, don't let the comedy-fantasy setting fool you. "Going Postal" will make you think as you laugh. I read it in a day, because the story and characters would not let me go. Highly recommended.
