What She Left Behind

 By Ellen Marie Wiseman

Adult Fiction

Reviewed by Alvina from the Altona Branch

Clara is a young lady in New York in 1929. She’s ambitious and doesn’t want to follow her parents strict plan for her life. After she’s wrongly admitted to an insane asylum, she fights repeatedly for her freedom.

Isabelle, with her foster mother, finds Clara’s journal many years later. As she deals with her own difficult childhood, she relates to Clara and tries to put the missing pieces of her life together.

I love how the book bounces between Clara and Isabelle’s stories and how everything ties together at the end.

For fans of Lisa Wingate I’d recommend  Ellen Marie Wiseman as well.
