The Boy Who Painted the World

Indigo is an abandoned five year old living in the city.  A teenage girl named Jade takes him under her wing and helps him learn to survive on the streets.  They spend their nights in the basement of a homeless shelter and take cover under a refrigerator box during the day.  Indigo shovels snow to make a little bit of money to buy food.  When Jade is arrested for shoplifting cream to help with Indigo's dry frosty hands, Indigo is left alone and has to find his own way.  He dreams of becoming a famous artist, so with his coloured pencils under his arm, he sets out to find Jade.  What he finds is a world of art, friendship, family and the courage to pursue his dream.

I enjoyed read about Indigo's tenacity and courage to go on despite his age.  It was neat to see how he overcame the obstacles he encountered.
